Ma’ali, Muhammad Riza (1929-1989), son of Hajj Mirza Tahir Abu al-Ma’ali, a poet with the noms de plume Ma’ali and Furugh. Born in the ancient district of Kuchesfahan, Gilan, he was raised and received his education in his hometown and graduated from the Ittihadiyya (Abu al-Ma’ali) primary and secondary school. Then, he embarked upon his teaching employment and was involved in cultural activities. Having retired from his teaching position, he served as the director of the Shahid Bihishti Library, Rasht. He died and was laid to rest in his hometown. A talented poet, he embarked upon his poetical career in his early youth and was a master of composing poetry in all forms, though he was more inclined towards composing ghazals. His works include three collections of poetry, Gul-i Dasht-i Bifurugh; Gulha-yi Dawudi; and Dah Qatra Ashk.
