Arjhangi

Biography

Arzhangi, Farhad (1937-1961). Tar instrumentalist and one of the outstanding performers on the tar in the Persian classical music. He was born into a cultured family; his father, Rassam, was a painter of repute. His brilliant talent was revealed in his childhood when he studied music with ‘Ali Akbar Shahnazi and Musa Ma‘rufi. Already, at the age of twenty, he had become both an instrumentalist whose mastery of technique was extraordinary as well as a talented and prolific composer. He also completed his university education in the field of chemistry

Unfortunately, the brevity of life did not allow Arzhangi’s art to mature and flourish so that use could be made of his skills in the Gulha programmes. No album by him to date has been released. However, one of his works was remixed and adjusted for performance in the Gulha-yi Rangarang programme no. 401, which credits him by name. A collection of his works is in the possession of his sister,  the poetess and translator Huma Arzhangi (1937-).
