‘Abbas Sulaymani

Biography

‘Abbas Sulaymani (1920-1992), renowned instrumentalist who performed on various wind instruments (clarinet, saxophone, flute, and trumpet, as well as violin) and who performed in the Gulha orchestra. The sound of his instruments can be heard echoing throughout most of the Gulha programmes. He first studied music with instructors in the Iranian army and then from 1952 onwards performed on Radio Tehran and in the [Iranian] Symphonic Orchestra. The sound of his instrument also strikes the ear in a vivid manner in the historic performance of the Iranian national anthem titled Ay Iran (“O Iran!”) that had been composed by Khaliqi and Gulagulab.
