Jalal Qanuni

Jalal Qanuni (1906-1979)

Qanun instrumentalist and the son of Rahim Qanuni (1875-1954), the most famous instrumentalist performing on the Qanun in late Qajar and early Pahlavi times. He was born into a Jewish family of musicians and studied music with his father. He began his music career at an early age. He performed in the orchestras of the Ministry of Culture and Art from 1960 onwards, where he accompanied the female vocalist Khatira Parvana. No solo album of his has been released. His performances on the qanun, can be heard in Gulha-yi Sahra’i 45 and 57.
