Darughih, Kamran (1942-2007). Kamanchih and violin instrumentalist. Abu’l-Qasim Darughih Kazim studied with Ruhullah Khaliqi at the National Conservatory where Husayn ‘Ali Mallah (1931-1998), the famous violin instrumentalist, composer and scholar, also taught him and recommended him as a capable performer for the Gulha programmes. He studied the violin with Mallah and learned in a short time the kamanchih from Asadullah Malik and before long acquired remarkable skills in performing on it. He performed in different orchestras and made a name for himself during the 1970s as a young and talented musician. The sound of his instrument is often heard in the Gulha orchestras. Recordings of his solo performances were also made. He also wrote a few compositions which were performed and recorded with or without lyrics in various radio and television orchestras. He ceased his musical activities after 1979 and thenceforth hardly played his instruments. He apparently had no students nor ever released any albums. Darugheh was a skilled musician whose talents unfortunately stagnated before reaching their maturity; failing to regain the artistic accomplishments of his early years he never achieved any lasting fame, such that even his fine work on the Gulha programmes could not substantially change his waning reputation.
