‘Imad, Ram (1930-2002)
Flute instrumentalist and composer. Having made his debut performances under the name ‘Imadu’din Ram at theatrical troupes active in his homeland, Mazandaran, he moved to Tehran where he first attended private classes at the Conservatory for the Advanced Study of Music. He was one of the last instrumentalists who performed Persian classical music on the flute within the capacity of his talents and enjoyed further recognition during the years 1960-1990. Despite his constant performances on Iranian National Radio and Television, and in the orchestras of the Ministry of Culture and Art, and even his own pop music performances, in which he showed his good taste both in composition and in singing, he rarely participated in the Gulha programmes. In only two programmes: Gulha-yi Taza 32 and 111, is his name mentioned as an instrumentalist. He left Iran in 1981 owing to political reasons and the restrictions placed on the arts there and never returned to his homeland. Karim Chamanara recorded and released a 33 gramophone record of his performances (Tehran: Ahang-i Ruz 1964).
