Akbar Muhsini

Biography

Muhsini, Akbar (1912-1974). ‘Ud and tar instrumentalist performing in the Gulha orchestra. Born into a family of musicians, he studied music with many teachers including Husayn Yahaqqi and Musa Ma‘rufi at the Military Academy. He was a member of the orchestra of the National Music Society and was celebrated during the 1950s as the reviver of the ‘ud in Persian music. He owed his fame to his well-known composition, Ilaha-yi Naz featuring the poetry of Karim Fakur and the vocalist Ghulam Husayn Banan.
