Abdal Isfahani

Abdal Isfahani (d. 1523), a poet whose nom de plume was Asir ("Captive"). A companion of Sam Mirza Safavi, he was an apothecary from Isfahan whom love drivin mad and was hospitalized for some months, though he was not cured. He romed the neighborhoods in Isfahan bare foot for three years. Then, he went to Tabriz and stayed with Armenians in their taverns, but finally repented. Some biographers have said that he fell in Sam Mirza’s invasion of Kandahar and was buried there. The author of Rayhanat al-Adab erroneously regarded him as a poet flourishing in the nineteenth century. Selections of his poetry have been incorporated in biographical works.
