Hasan Mirza Safavi (d. 1577), son of Muhammad ibn Shah Tahmasb Safavi. A poet and an elder brother to the Safavid Shah ‘Abbas. Prior to his father’s and his brother’s reigns, he aroused Shah Isma’il II’s suspicion and settled in Rayy. Finally, the king dispatched his people to seize and execute him. Hasan Mirza, after many a flight, was captivated and faced execution. The following couplets are by him:
Thy face, from which tulips grow from wine,
Dews grow from it out of the wine’s twist,
The hand that received a wine cup from thy hand,
If turned into dust, a wine cup would grow from it.
