Dr. ‘Ali Faruhi

Biography

Faruhi, ‘Ali (b. 1929), born in Sumi’a-sara, Gilan, he received his primary education at the Shams school in his hometown and at the ‘Unsuri school in Rasht and later studied at the Shahpur high school in Rasht and graduated with honors. Faruhi furthered his studies at the Medical School of  the University of Tehran and graduated in general surgery. He practiced as a surgeon of the state-run hospitals and the head of the Health Administration in the Gilan province. He was transferred to the Ministry of Health and served as the head of the surgical ward at the Pursina Hospital in Rasht. He travelled to London in 1966 to further his studies at King’s College, London and served his internship at the hospitals affiliated to the University of London. Having returned to Iran, he served as the head of the surgical wards of the Shifa, Yahya’iyan, and Lawlagar hospitals. He was appointed the president of Sasan Hospital, an office he held until 1988. He also taught at the Milli University (present day Shahid Beheshti University) and is currently teaching at other universities in Iran. He is a skillful physician and surgeon and besides holding academic medical offices, is deeply attached to Persian letters and composes poetry in different forms.
