Nadir Nadirpur

Biography

Nadir Nadirpur (1929-1999), son of Taqi Mirza, a descendant of Riza Quli Mirza, the eldest son of Nadir Shah. He was born in Tehran and died in Los Angeles, the United States. He was fully acquainted with French and translated poetry and articles into Persian from French. Having received his primary and secondary education in Tehran, he studied French literature at Sorbonne. Having obtained his BA in French from Sorbonne, he returned to Tehran and worked in the private sector for years and then found employment at the Education Ministry. He also served as the editor-in-chief of the Hunar va Mardum and the Naqsh va Nigar monthlies. He departed for Italy to further his studies of Italian language and literature and studied in Perugia and Rome from 1964 to 1978 while holding the office of supervising Iranian students in those cities. Following his return to Iran, he directed the Adab-i Imruz program at the Iranian National Radio and Television producing programs on literary figures. He settled in Paris from July 1980 to May 1986 where he was elected as the honorary member of the Union des Ecrivains (France) lecturing in and attending different conferences and seminars. He traveled to the United States in the spring 1986 at the invitation of the Iranian Cultural Foundation, Boston. He delivered numerous lectures at Harvard, George Town, UCLA, Berkeley, and Irvine universities commencing his literary and cultural programs in classes and on radio and TV channels. His works include the following collections of poetry: Chashm-ha wa Dast-ha (1954); Dukhtar-i Jam (1955); Shi’r-i Angur (1958); Surma-yi Khurshid (1960); Ash’ar-i Barguzida (1963); Giyah wa Sang Na, Atash (1964); Az Asman ta Risman (1978); Sham-i Bazpasin, Murwarid (1978); Subh-i Durughin (1981); Khun wa Khakistar (1988). His translations include: Ash’ar-i Hovhannes Tumanyan (1968), Haft Chehra az Sha’iran-i Mu’asir-i Italiya  1974).
