‏Azar Azima

Biography

Azar (b.1934), female vocalist. Her name is seemingly an abbreviation of Azarmidukht ‘Azima (Sarajpur) used by this young vocalist of the Gulha programmes broadcast between 1945-1948. Born into a family from Isfahan, she studied with Abu’l-Hasan Saba and Faramarz Payvar. Organizers of the Gulha programmes took an interest in her warm and attractive، throaty voice and recorded the Yik Shakh-i Gul programme no. 140, featuring Saba and Payvar, with her as its vocalist. From 1960 onwards, she abandoned her professional musical activities and embarked on an administrative career. She was the wife of Murtiza Hannana (1922-1990), the composer and conductor.
