Ruhbakhsh, ‘Izzat (1910-1989)
Vocalist performing classical Persian singing (avaz), popular ballads (tasnif), and assorted lyrical songs (classical and non-classical). Having studied with Abu’l-Hasan Saba for a short while, she was in the public limelight during the years 1945-1960. Her singing career was brief but influential. She performed in a number of earlier Golha-yi javidan, Golha-yi rangarang, Barg-i sabz, Yik shakha-i gol and Golha-yi Sahra'i, but Iranian National Radio policies eventually sidelined her in favour of younger, upcoming female vocalists like Marziya, Puran, and Ilahi. Numerous gramophone records were recorded featuring her singing accompanied by Shapur Niyakan’s and ‘Abbas Shapuri’s orchestras in the years 1945-1954.
