Manuchihr (1937-). Ne Manuchehr Sakha’i, he was a vocalist known for his performance of popular Persian lyrical songs. He entered the Iranian music scene in early 1950s when studying at university. His flamboyant personality, the special tonality of his voice, intimate acquaintance with Persian literature and classical music, and his faithful adherence to high moral principles turned him into one of the enduring singers of serious Persian popular music during the 1960s and 1970s. As per the policy of the organizers of the Golha programmes from 1966 onwards, his vocals were featured in a number of Golha-yi Sahra’i and Yik Shakh-i Gol programmes devoted to folkloric melodies but these performances did not contribute much to his ongoing popularity. Manuchihr Sakha’i has been living in the United States since 1979 where he has been active in the fields of Persian music and the media. Among his many recordings may be mentioned a 33 gramophone record entitled simply Manuchihr (Tehran, Ahang-i Ruz 1970) with compositions arranged by Parviz Atabaki.
